Green construction surges at UCLA, cutting energy bills
Since 2006, UCLA has certified five of its buildings under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program and now will add nine more projects to be completed this year. UC and UCLA policy now requires that all new buildings and major retrofits meet LEED standards.
"The culture of sustainability that the UC system has been able to create is admirable and gives peer institutions a model to replicate on their campuses."
